Life is generally a game based on the various stages that man travels through in his life. In this story, man travels from high school to retirement, a job, getting married and even having children.
This game was created by Milton Bradley in the year 1860. Bradley was a successful Lithographer. The only famous thing that he had done was a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Bradley made a mockery out of himself because the portrait of Abraham Lincoln was a portrait where he didn’t have a beard, so out of desperation he created ‘the Checkered Game of Life”. It became famous and his business with the game started growing.
He sold 45,000 copies in one year. In the year 1959, Bradley’s executives asked help from the game inventor Ruben Klamer, to come up with a quality game because the game was celebrating its 100th anniversary. With the help of Ruben, they created the new game called “The Game of Life” which came out in 1960.
The game was a little modified when there was an introduction of Life tiles for players which gave rewards for people if they throw out their trash, say no to drugs etc. This game is wide-spread all over the world and has been a popular game since Ruben made a few changes with the game.
The game is a checkerboard. The main objective of this game is to land on the correct spots and earns a few points. Landing on the wrong spots will make you lose a few points but essentially the game teaches you what is right and wrong. As you travel you keep getting points and you start from infancy to old age and when reaching old age you get 50 points for reaching “Happy Old Age”.
The game has been republished a couple of times since the changes Ruben made in 1959. It was republished in 1959, 1961, 1966, 1978, 1992, 2000 and recently in 2005.
It is merely based on our own lives and how as children we turn into adults and so on. Hence it is a game of your life experiences and it is a great game for families that like spending time together. The most recent version was released in 2005 after a few changes. These changes where generally made just to make it look more realistic.
The “Game of life” has changed ever since 1860. The only problem is updating the game every five years to make it suit the realistic conditions around as and make it easier to understand. Due to its name it must be necessary to put in all the new details and rules which comply with the current times.
As, we have seen that Bradley only had created this game out of desperation it shows the brilliance of a man. The game is suitable for all ages and needs to be played by all ages as it is a game based on the life of a person.
