“Game of life” is a simple game to play though it needs a little reading to understand the game. This game usually has 6 players but the newer version of the game allows at least 8 players. There are life tiles which all have a special achievement, a dollar amount and a secret message which will count to the total once you finish the game.
These life tiles are supposed to be dealt with carefully and are mixed up. Four tiles are carefully removed, without seeing them or looking at the message given on the tiles. The cards are supposed to be separated into 4 decks i.e. salary cards, Career cards, stocks and house deeds.
These are placed face down on the board. All players are expected to spin the wheel. The person whose spin is the highest will play first. Game play will then go in the clockwise direction. You are supposed to spin the wheel and then you will have a character or toy which you will move on the spaces on the board. The character will have to be moved according to the arrows on the spaces.
On your first term you will have to decide a career or go to college. Colleges will offer more career options and money but it takes time and sometimes you will have to undergo losses. When you make the choice to start your career you will place your character on “Start Career”. You even have a degree if you have chosen the option of college. When you reach the space of buying a house , you are expected to draw 1 house deed and you are required to pay the bank in full. If you are short of cash, you can borrow from the bank. There are insurance, stocks and loans. To get this you, have to pay the banker some money. There are various insurances in the game. Bank loans are also allowed in this game.
This is only on the basis, that you do not have enough money to purchase something or if you have lost something. Last but not least, you can go into retirement and by doing this you will have to repay your loans to the bank. You are expected to place all the cards and then spin the wheel to attain retirement. Various other sites are giving the game for free.
The 2004 edition of the game came with small changes like replacing a travel agent with a computer consultant and a few changes to various careers. The 2005 edition of the game was made even more realistic and tried to reduce the element of chance, even though this game entirely depends on chance.

The” Game of life” in the board version is more in demand. The online game has somehow failed to satisfy the players due to various changes. This game needs more of a literate group of people because the new rules are little complicated. This is why families prefer board games as it can accommodate all ages.
History of Life
Posted by oscar in Board Games, LIFE on October 4th, 2009

Life is generally a game based on the various stages that man travels through in his life. In this story, man travels from high school to retirement, a job, getting married and even having children.
This game was created by Milton Bradley in the year 1860. Bradley was a successful Lithographer. The only famous thing that he had done was a portrait of Abraham Lincoln. Bradley made a mockery out of himself because the portrait of Abraham Lincoln was a portrait where he didn’t have a beard, so out of desperation he created ‘the Checkered Game of Life”. It became famous and his business with the game started growing.
He sold 45,000 copies in one year. In the year 1959, Bradley’s executives asked help from the game inventor Ruben Klamer, to come up with a quality game because the game was celebrating its 100th anniversary. With the help of Ruben, they created the new game called “The Game of Life” which came out in 1960.
The game was a little modified when there was an introduction of Life tiles for players which gave rewards for people if they throw out their trash, say no to drugs etc. This game is wide-spread all over the world and has been a popular game since Ruben made a few changes with the game.
The game is a checkerboard. The main objective of this game is to land on the correct spots and earns a few points. Landing on the wrong spots will make you lose a few points but essentially the game teaches you what is right and wrong. As you travel you keep getting points and you start from infancy to old age and when reaching old age you get 50 points for reaching “Happy Old Age”.
The game has been republished a couple of times since the changes Ruben made in 1959. It was republished in 1959, 1961, 1966, 1978, 1992, 2000 and recently in 2005.
It is merely based on our own lives and how as children we turn into adults and so on. Hence it is a game of your life experiences and it is a great game for families that like spending time together. The most recent version was released in 2005 after a few changes. These changes where generally made just to make it look more realistic.
The “Game of life” has changed ever since 1860. The only problem is updating the game every five years to make it suit the realistic conditions around as and make it easier to understand. Due to its name it must be necessary to put in all the new details and rules which comply with the current times.
As, we have seen that Bradley only had created this game out of desperation it shows the brilliance of a man. The game is suitable for all ages and needs to be played by all ages as it is a game based on the life of a person.

An Introduction to the Game Called LIFE
Posted by oscar in Board Games, LIFE on October 4th, 2009

The Game Of life is a board game that was invented in the year 1860 by Milton Bradley in a desperate move to make money. It is also known as the Checkered Game of Life. It generally takes the players on a tour of their own lives and teaches them various traits in life. The player will go from infancy, to adulthood and finally to old age.
The game involves various spaces where you can move on. Your turn is played by moving a wheel that comes with spaces numbered from 1 to 10, which is in the centre of the board. The board may also contain various three dimensional items such as buildings, small mountains and a small car which is used for moving around the board.
When you are married you will place a keg in the car, indicating that you are married. If you want to have kids then you will have to attach two small kegs. There are different colours in the game indicating different characteristics of the spaces.
At the beginning of the game you are required to set up a bank, so that you can borrow and even get money from the bank. There are various denominations which the bank can give out ranging from ten thousand dollars to hundred thousand dollars. There are various promissory notes, and stocks certificates.
There are various versions of the game. In 1963 the game of life was copyrighted by the Milton Bradley’s Company and their version has some changes from the later versions. A player can only travel in one route throughout the game. If you take the shorter route, it means you are doing business and at that moment the player gets a salary.
However, the game kept varying due to various changes to suit the changing conditions around us. The 1970 version increased the money on account of the inflation. The late 1980 made many changes, such as the car used to move along the spaces. In 1992, new changes were made such as rewarding the player for good behaviour and also rewarding them for making the right choices and they faced a penalty if they went against the rules.
The money denominations had increased even more. They gave various salary cards, career cards which made the game more competitive. While choosing career the player takes a shorter route. Going to college is a longer route. Sometimes if you are playing career and you pick a card stating “Degree Certificate” it means that you will have to go to college.
This game also has various insurances such as car insurance, house insurance etc. There have been criticisms that this game really depends on luck and nothing else. Various traits of the game, such as the player has to make a decision, such as attending college or paying rent, might have a very small effect on the outcome. There are other various characteristics in the game giving you various career options, insurance and stocks and also finally retiring in life.
