“Clue” or” Cluedo” is mainly a board game and now has also transformed into a computer based board game. It has been reported that this game originated in England in the year 1946. It so happened that there were a group of game inventing friends that created this game based on mysteries. A Solicitors’’ clerk who was from Birmingham in England helped in the creation of this game. This game was mainly played between manufacturers of different companies.
Why the name Cluedo?
The name actually was meant to find a mystery that the game holds. It is basically finding clues to solve the mystery. Initially in England its name was “Cluedo” and the people of England called it “Ludo” which was derived from the Latin word “I Play”. It was created by the Waddington’s Games limited that produced a new game and changed the name from “Ludo” to “Cluedo”. Cluedo which was invented in the year 1949 has grown to be the most influential board game even beating Monopoly because of its interesting game play. This game has catered to all age groups for the past 59 years and has been a favourite in many countries.
It was created by Anthony E. Pratt a rich clerk in England and his wife came up with the details of the game. Soon he received the patent rights for the game and then named it “Cluedo”. It has been renowned as the best board game as it can be played by people of all ages. So much so, that a movie and a television series was started after this game because of the famous murder solving mysteries. This game was very much based on Alfred Hitchcock’s series of murder solving movies which was created in the 1970’s and proved to be a hit.
“Cluedo” is an easy board game. It has been pronounced as “Clue” in America. Books and games have been given out in the ‘Cluedo” franchise and even a complete “Cluedo ‘chronology is available. However in 2008 a new “Cluedo” was created making changes to the game play and the characters called the ”Cluedo Reinvention”. Of late the new game has not been in production.
Basically it consists of a few characters and a murder mystery that has been committed in a mansion. There are suspects and the main character is Doctor Black who solves the mysteries. The board shows an old English country house which has corridors and passages that are connected. It is all done in a clockwise manner.
Every player has to guess as to what is in the envelope. The player sees the card in secret and makes his call. Every player should be aware of what he is doing and also what the opponent is doing.

This can mean that some of the players can guess one card or maybe two cards but they pretend that it is not correct.

The game requires you to be sneaky so that you can confuse your opponent. The rules for Cluedo are simple and easy to understand. Knowing the basic rules of the game is just enough to play the game. But if you are a serious player then you should learn to master the rules to play the game. The first basic rule is that you place the character on the board and put the three cards in the envelope. You will also have to place each weapon in each room.
You are expected to choose six of the nine rooms. There will be an envelope with the words “confidential” written on it. You are expected to shuffle the cards into three groups namely suspects, rooms and weapons. Shuffle them secretly and then put them in each room face down on the table. The Case File will have all the answers needed to win the game. Shuffling should be done in three piles. Dealing of the cards need to be put face down on the table while being distributed to the opponents. You then advance to look at your cards.
One of the most important rules is that when the game has started you should use the detective book and fold it in half. You have to move your own character. You should try moving into every room to get weapons or clues but two characters cannot be together in the same room. You can move horizontally or vertically, forward or backward but not crossways. You can keep changing the directions as long as you want but you cannot do it crossways. You cannot land on a spot that is already occupied by an opponent or a suspect.
If you think you have found what the three cards in the envelope are, you can then make an accusation and name any of the three cards in the envelope. You can also make a suggestion and you make it in the name of a weapon or a suspect that is already in the room. When you make an accusation, you can only name one. If the accusation is wrong you have to secretly put the entire three cards in the envelope.
You will not be able to make any more moves in the game and you cannot win the game. You falsely keep asking suggestions. The opponents can keep moving your character into different rooms, where they can make their suggestions. After you have made a false accusation and if your character is blocking the door, you will have to move into the room to allow all the others to move on.
When proving that a suggestion is true or false, you will have to determine what the three cards in the envelope are. You can do this on the basis of elimination. When you make a suggestion, you will have to move a suspect and weapon into the room where you have just entered. You will then have to name the crime committed in that room by that suspect, with the weapon they are using.
While making accusations you have to call out” I accuse” with the name after that and also name of the weapon used to commit the crime. Also when an opponent shows you one of the cards he has opened, it is proof that this card cannot be the card in the envelope. At the end of your turn, you will have to note the card you have seen so as to keep in mind what has been said. If none of them are able to prove that your suggestion is false, you either play your turn or call for an accusation.
