Are you an ardent fan of Risk? Do you love the game to bits? Then I am sure that you would need this article. Most times, playing a game with a certain set of people can be really interesting. But after a while, you can get bored particularly when you know each players weaknesses, can pinpoint their next 4 moves and know where they are headed. It becomes particularly dreary when you consistently win games and matches.

When you consistently win the people around you, there is often the desire to look for someone on your skill level or someone who can match you wit for wit, tactic for tactic. Such experiences can be pleasantly giddy and would challenge you to greater heights in the game, will increase your aspiration to become better, will hone your skills and probably pit you against the best players in the world.

Thanks to the internet, you can easily go beyond your circle of friends and play with Risk enthusiasts from all over the world. There are quite a few places where you can hook up with players who are also willing to play with you.

Some you can join after paying, others are free, some are also downloadable while others are browser-based (Not advisable if you are using Dial-up internet connection). Depending on what your choice is, take some time to get a feel of them –particularly the paid ones. However, the point of focus here would be the free versions online. These are:

1. Attack!

This is a Facebook application mimicked after Risk and is fun to play. About two percent of Facebook users have this application. That shows you that you can have as many opponents to contend with. The one thing to note here is that while you may be good, it is only advisable to know that there is probably someone who is far better than you are.

2. Java Risk:

This edition of Risk doesn’t look attractive at all. In fact, your first inclination is to probably skip it and download something else. But just before you do that, go check the kind of options available for the game, the different maps (extras) available for your gaming pleasure when you decide that you don’t want the old ones, and its artificial intelligence.

And unlike all other common games in its league (open source), Java Risk still gets updated once in a while. The last update was to make it Vista compatible. You can download java Risk at http://jrisk.sourceforge.net.

3. Conquest: If you are like me and would just want a Risk game that is both simple and mobile, then my advice would be that you try playing Conquest available at http://www.windowsgames.co.uk/download/ConquestSetup.exe. Easily installable and can be played on your Pocket PC. The only disadvantage with the game is the artificial intelligence which is easily predictable.

4. LandGrab:

This is the online version –nothing to download. All you need to do is go to http://landgrab.net/landgrab/Home and sign up for an account. You can upgrade to premium if you like it.
